Happy New Year

Hope you have a good New Years. Don’t do anything dumb.

Firefly DVD

Last year there was a really great Sci-Fi show on Fox called Firefly. Joss Whedon, the guys behind Buffy and Angel, created the series and wrote and directed a few episodes. Now the show didn’t have stellar ratings, but they were good. Most importantly they kept getting better with each new ep. The jackasses at Fox decided to cancel the show in December of 2002. Luckily for us they just released the entire series on dvd this month.

Lucky for me, my fiance got it for me for Christmas. Let me tell you, it’s DEFINITELY worth it. They’ve got ever episode aired and some that weren’t either. You can listen to running commentary from Joss Whedon and some of the actors as well. It’s definitely one to pick up. Now that that’s been said, go get it!

Merry Christmas!

Hope you have a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all that other good stuff.

Hopefully Santa, Hanukkah Harry or whomever doesn’t jip ya.

Long Live The King!

Ok, so I lied. I told you I was going to write a review yesterday and it’s today and there’s still no review. Actually, this is the review so there is a review…. ANYWAYS…. on to the review.

This movie is a MUST SEE, it wraps up the prior to films perfectly. Now granted the purists will cry about some things but Sir Ian McKellen said it perfectly, “the books is the book, this is the film”. The movies are VERY close to the books and Jackson does a great job transfering it to the big screen. It ran for 3 hours and 20 minutes and it was well worth it. Peter Jackson stated that he cut about 1 hour and 20 minutes from the film and it will be included in the extended dvd release. Now, back to the review…. if you don’t want to read any spoilers don’t read below…

There is NO scouring of the shire in the film, Jackson didn’t even film it, but he didn’t need to. He did an adequate job closing the story. We see Frodo and Bilbo leave with the elves, we see Sam getting married and having children. We didn’t need to see Saruman in the shire, people would have been confused. Speaking of Saruman, we don’t see him at all. They only make reference to him remaining in his tower. Christopher Lee was a little pissed that he was left out, but oh well.

We DO see Shelob finally, yes I know she was supposed to be in The Two Towers but she wasn’t. Well she was in ROTK and it was worth the wait. The special effects in this movie are simply AMAZING. They really brought everything to life and Shelob looked great. Speaking of special effects, Gollum was amazing. Weta really outdid themselves in the trilogy.

The great thing about this movie is that we get to see the relationships develop and flourish. We see Frodo’s reliance on Sam and vice versa. We see man triumph in the face of evil, all the while overcoming it’s own evil. We see the journey come to an end and we’re not sad, or at least I wasn’t. This is one of the best movies I have EVER seen in my life. Peter Jackson and all of the crew of the LOTR series should be commended for their GREAT job. I just hope we can see PJ do the Hobbit.

LOTR: ROTK Preview

So I got my tickets already for the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It’s released today and I am SUPER excited to see it. Peter Jackson’s done an absolutely WONDERFUL job with the films so far and word is that the third installment is the best. I’ll let you know tomorrow, when I do a write up of my thoughts on the movie.
